Message : First of all, i'm not argueing HP figures, i agree that LS1 equipped Camaros and Firebirds are underrated, my gut instinct would be they arn't as powerfull as a corvette, but i know what doesnt count for anything.

Camaros are about the same weight as the Corvette and have the same engine. The older LS1 Camaros were de-tuned a bit more and had cams that did't use the potential of the engine. But in the later models the cars seem to be putting the same power to the ground that the Corvettes are. Also, the Camaro's have a solid rear axle and the Vette has IRS, meaning the Camaro should be able to launch better

:Explaint me how a bottem-end-heavy car can pull away from a turbo equiped Z in the quarter mile?

They can pull on the Z all the way down the track because they not only have more bottom end torque, but more top end horsepower as well. The LS1's aren't like the old Mustang 5.0 engines where they had loads of low end torque but not much HP and died off at higher RPMs, the LS1's have a very broad torque curve that extends past 6,000 rpm. Horsepower is horsepower, and it doesn't matter if your car is turbo'd or not. HP is HP.

:If a Corvette could easily run high 12s, i'd think Chevy would advertise that, even if they wont advertise the Camaro to keep sales of corvette's high.

Corvettes DO run high 12's. A few different places have tested the Vette and ran 12's with it. Here's one here:

: Also, even though some members of GM message boards claim certain times in their cars, it doesn't meen they know more than the manufactures.

I never said that those guys "know more" than GM. GM very wells knows the HP of the Camaro that they're building, but it must make monetary sense for them to downplay the performance of the Camaro.

:Take TT.net for example: if i post a question asking about Z quarter mile times, there are many very knowledgeable and helpfull people who may post to my assistance, but there are also hundereds of Newbies or idiots who have no idea, but will post nonetheless. Heck, even Jack B may deicde to throw in a nice 15.0 second optinion, so just because someone posts it, it doenst meen they know their stuff.

Remember this- It's always possible to drive a car slower than it's capable of going, but it's not possible to drive it faster than it's capable of going. If you take a tricky car to launch like the Z and give the same car to 3 people to test, and one guy runs a 14.5@103, another guy runs 15.0@103, and the other runs 13.7@103, then the car is at least a 13.7 second car but 2 of the 3 drivers are not that good.

: Finally, about your link to the site with the slip showing the z28 run 12.8, you're taking the word of a private GeoCities site, but saying Car and Driver doesnt know their stuff? I can make a GeoCities site that shows a Civic SI runnig the quarter in 11 flat

I posted the link to that site because the guy lives near me and I have met him, checked out his car and raced him. He's not some anonymous internet guy to me, I know him. And his car beat mine all 3 times we raced, and I ran a 13.0
